Form: Tree; up to 40ft. tall. Origins: Native Identifying Features: Produces bright pink flowers in early spring, before leaves. Flowers appear to grow directly from bark. Leaves simple with distinctive heart shape. Trivial Facts: Called "Judas-tree" because Judas Iscariot was thought to have hanged himself on a closely related, white-flowered tree. His blood and shame supposedly turned the flowers red. |
