Japanese Wisteria

Wisteria floribunda (Fabaceae)


Form: Herbaceous; up to 20 m long..

Origins: Introduced

Identifying Features: Climbing, creeping vines, lavender-purple raceme inflorescences, and pinnately compound leaves. The leaves of this plant can be seen all over the cross country trail. Similar to Chinese Wisteria, but can be distinguished by the fact that its flowers open gradually from the base to the tip, whereas those of Chinese Wisteria open all at once.
