Quercus stellata (Fagaceae)


Form: Deciduous tree, up to 70 feet.

Origins: Native

Identifying Features: Leaves are obovate with 5-7 deep broad rounded lobes. The 2 middle lobes are the largest. It has thick, yellowish twigs and yellow, star-shaped hairs on the underside of the leaf.

Trivial Facts: The Indians once used post oak medicinally to treat a number of illnesses, ranging from skin infections and canker sores, to fevers and dysentery.
