Besides the advantage of the easy transfection of a specific protein
into the VP22 protein, the VP22 vectors also contain the Human cytomegalovirus
(CMV) promoter which helps the VP22 fusion proteins have a higher level
of expression than if another vector was used. The bovine growth
hormone (BGH) polyadenylation signal is also inserted into the vector because
it aids in the correct processing of mRNA. In order to more easily
recognize the recombinant proteins with an Anti-myc Antibody, a C-terminal
c-myc epitope tag constitutes one section of the vector.
