Lytechinus
variegatus Genes in Development: Proto-oncogenes
SU(Lv)-ets-2
Function
SU(Lv)-ets-2 is a member of the ets family of genes.
It is the sea urchin gene related to the oncogene v-ets
of avian erythroblastosis virus E26.
Southern blot analysis indicated that the SU(Lv)-ets-2 sequences are present
in the sea urchin genome only as a single locus (Chen et al., 1988).
Protein
SU(Lv)-ets-2 is the ets-family protein (Chen et al., 1988).

Expression Pattern
A single transcript of about 6.8 kb was observed with total RNA
from unfertilized eggs and from embryos.
Significant levels of SU(Lv)-ets-2 transcript were found from 10
min postfertilization until the blastula stage.
After fertilization, expression immediately increases
until a maximum level is reached around the 16-cell stage
and the morula stage. Thereafter, the level of transcript
declines markedly (Chen et al., 1988).
