Faculty Position in Immunology In many ways, all biomedical research addresses failures of the immune system, but we have only begun to unlock its secrets. One element that has been lacking in Davidson’s otherwise strong biology curriculum is a lab-based immunology course. Responding to student demand, the biology department offered a lecture-only course in immunology three times during the past nine years. Although this course was highly subscribed, it lacked the key element of hands-on experience. We propose to hire a trained immunologist who will teach a lab-based immunology course, a course in the introductory biology series, and establish a research program involving undergraduates. Thanks in part to the 1996 HHMI grant, the new immunologist will have access to microscopy, tissue culture and animal care facilities. A tenured faculty mentor will provide encouragement and advice during the immunologist’s first six years at Davidson. |
